Though the history of Seven Islands dates from prehistoric times, I
have decided to focus on the area's history of the last 400 years. Beginning
with the area's habitation by the Monacan Indians in the 1600s, this
history continues with the early white settlers in the 1700s, the plantation
owners and families of the 1800s, and the dwindling families of the
1900s, to the rebirth in the 21st century.
